Here we are again, cancelling plans. About six months ago, in too much faith, I booked a week at a condo in Lake Tahoe for the family. I anticipated that many things might still be closed because of COVID, but I thought at the very least we could just go there and look at the beautiful lake for a week while we ate yummy condominium kitchen delights. No such luck. Another lockdown and stay-at-home order: reservations cancelled.
So join me (won't you?) in raising a dreamy glass to the unplanned and ever-changing schedule that dominates our lives.
Yes, this much anticipated Tahoe trip was cancelled, but we saved some money to put toward the next vacation. Sure, we didn’t get to look at the lake, but we got extra time to relax and mull through our Christmas gifts. My son had more time to assemble his computer before school started up again. We had time to put stuff away and organize, so when we do go on that getaway, we won't be coming back to so much chaos. We ate, we looked in one another’s beautiful eyes instead of a lake. We rode bikes and felt more at ease and at home, because we were literally at home.
Sour grapes? I think not. Sometimes a last-minute changeup is what we need to look at things in a bright, new yet familiar way. I am thankful for all that I am and all that I have and I will forever be thankful for the spontaneity of unplanned beauty.
